So, representative John Read has proposed a bill to ban obese people from eating in public. He acknolodges that it wasn’t brought up to actually pass, but to simply invoke conversation about the 30% of the population of mississippi that is obese (making it the most obese state in the union). Under his own proposed legistlation, he would actually be banned from eating in public as he is 5’11” and 230lbs. Pretty bold move on his part, but if what he says is true about bringing it up to create conversation about what to do with obesity (and not simply to get some face time in the news), then it’s also a very smart move, in my opinion.
